A multi-level storyline takes patients with the rare disease lupus on a dramaturgical journey. Lupus and the complex therapy at the University Hospital Erlangen are made tangible through the VR experience. Patients who actively engage with their therapy have better chances of healing. “Fighting Lupus” makes this possible, and studies and evaluations from the University Hospital Erlangen confirm this.
The patient learns that they are not alone and that there is a cure. This is the starting point into the VR world. The journey unfolds through a multi-layered storyline, taking the patient to fantastic or reality-based locations. VR has the potential to make the impossible possible. The immersive exploration of the “inner workings” of the body and the disease makes it easier to understand. A digital event is created with patients and doctors. They can be present live in the real space, but can also participate remotely, solely in VR.
In addition to its use in the clinic, it is also utilized at professional conferences or training sessions for healthcare staff.
Fighting Lupus has been nominated for the nextReality.Contest in the Interactive Education category.
