TalkThe New Language of Spatial Interaction
I’m Meghna Sonie, an XR Product Designer and Developer, and my work focuses on a growing design problem: spatial products can now use gaze, voice, hands, phones, wearable controllers and AI, but having more inputs does not tell us which one should do what, or when. In this talk, I break a spatial interaction into five parts: identifying the target, expressing the goal, controlling the action, confirming the decision and communicating the result. I show how these parts can be assigned to different modalities, devices and moments. Through before-and-after examples from current XR platforms and projects I have designed and built, I explain why gaze can help identify without selecting, why a phone or wearable may be better than hand gestures for continuous control, and why AI should suggest before it acts. I then apply PACES, a practical checklist based on precision, attention, context, effort and stakes. Attendees leave with a repeatable method for choosing the right input, device and level of confirmation for each part of a spatial experience
